Captured narrowband images. RGB version can be found here.

NGC281 – Hubble Palette

This is the first try of NGC281 using Hubble palette, though there is no famous magenta stars, the star color is still not correct.

NGC281 – Hubble Palette

This is the second try of Hubble palette. I managed to remove the magenta color and stars look more nature in this image.

Comet Honda-Mrkos-Pajdusakova (45P)

2017/03/01

After a few month stormy winter weather, finally we got a nice break. Many nearby places got flooded so I was very concerned about the road conditions. Before my trip, I emailed BLM office and they confirmed that Panoche Hills was open and road to overlook was good. As promised, the road was not affected by stormy weather at all.

The sky was crystal clear with excellent transparency and seeing after sky turned fully dark. However high clouds moved in after midnight, forced me packed up and leave early. I would have had a better night at Williams Hills BLM, but unfortunately the road was closed due to rain damage.

While waiting for Virgo cluster to rise, I took some images of comet 41P and 45P. From the following image, the tail looked really nice. The size of this the image is ~80’x60′.

Exposure: 9 x 300″
Location: Panoche Hills BLM, CA
Condition: excellent transparency, excellet seeing
Equipment: SIG8300M + Baader LGRB filter, comet tracking with OAG8300 + STi, AT111EDT on AP1100.

2017/03/13

I took images of comet 41P and 45P at my white zone backyard, to test my imaging system.

From the final stacked image, apparently I continued to use tracking rate of comet 41P for guiding, even though I remember clearly that I made the change.

Exposure: 12 x 300″
Location: Sunnyvale CA
Condition: Average transparency, average seeing
Equipment: SIG8300M + Baader LGRB filter, comet tracking with OAG8300 + STi, AT111EDT on AP1100.

Comet Tuttle–Giacobini–Kresák (41P)

2017/03/01

While waiting for virgo cluster to rise, I took some images of comet 41P and 45P.
There was no visible tail yet, but looked like the coma is large and diffused.

Exposure: 12 x 300″
Location: Panoche Hills BLM, CA
Condition: Excellent transparency, excellent seeing
Equipment: SIG8300M + Baader LGRB filter, comet tracking with OAG8300 + STi, AT111EDT on AP1100.

2017/03/13

I took images of comet 41P and 45P at my white zone backyard, to test my imaging system. Comparing to the last image, there was a very small tail visible, however the coma looked smaller probably due to light pollution and moon light. The smudge on the top right corner is spiral galaxy NGC3198.

Exposure: 12 x 300″
Location: Sunnyvale CA
Condition: Average transparency, average seeing
Equipment: SIG8300M + Baader LGRB filter, comet tracking with OAG8300 + STi, AT111EDT on AP1100.

2017/04/01

The transparency was good, except that there were some high clouds passing by from time to time. Overall sky condition was not so great when I took the image of 41P, during which time there were lots of passing clouds. The condition became better after midnight.

Exposure: 12 x 300″
Location: Panoche Hills BLM, CA
Condition: very good transparency with passing high clouds, very good seeing
Equipment: SIG8300M + Baader LGRB filter, comet tracking with OAG8300 + STi, AT111EDT on AP1100.
